Description

Duties and Responsibilities:

With a wide range of knowledge, identifies, creates, locates and procures creates visually appealing content for a government agency website. Utilizes HTML, Cold Fusion or similar language. Creates links to other web sites.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Primary role is to locate, develop and procure content for government website. This includes developing original content from organizational sources and networking with other IC agencies to identify content. Writes web content for use in a variety in a of codes, such as HTML and XHTML, CSS, Javascript, Actionscript, ColdFusion, .Net, Flash, or using code-generating programs, such as Dreamweaver and Visual Studio.

Participates in the decision making process on how images and other material will be digitally optimized and presented for the web; ensuring that material on the web site is accessible to all groups including those with disabilities; testing the site for functionality in different browsers and at different resolutions; fixing errors.

Works to clear copyright for the use of any existing content, liaising closely with a customer or client at the design stage and finding the answers to questions about why the site is needed, who the target audience will be, who the leading competitors are, etc.

Produces a design that will be attractive to the target user, has a logical navigation system and has all the features required.

Contributes to audience research as a basis for design of the site.

Contributes to the top-level and detailed design of the website with a particular focus on the ways in which the goals for the site and the needs of users can be met through the provision of appropriate content.

Contributes to the process of information design, to ensure that content is appropriately structured to meet the goals for the site and the needs of users.

Contributes to documentation of the design.

Contributes to the selection or design of appropriate content management software.

Prepares textual content for websites (including feature articles, advertising copy, database content, links, FAQs, etc.).

Prepares textual content for e-newsletters.

Designs web forms.

Prepares textual content for distribution as SMS messages.

Prepares scripts for audio voiceovers, for downloading from the site or distribution as podcasts'.

Specifies the multimedia content needed to support or work alongside textual content.

Locates and selects appropriate, existing multimedia content, including still images, animations, music and video.

May edit copy received from additional content contributors.

Provides advice and guidance to less experienced staff.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Typically requires bachelor's degree or equivalent and five to seven years of related experience.
