POSITION SUMMARY:

As a recognized authority, responsible for the long-term planning for switch network, including circuit forecasts, traffic studies, budgets, and other network performance reports. Plans integration of new switches into network. Ensures that traffic planning software is developed and revised to accurately report traffic levels. Participates in planning and policy development issues.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides leadership in integrating vendor, manufacturer, and technical knowledge into the network environment. Plans, tests, recommends, and implements network, file server, mainframe, and workstation hardware and software. Consults with users and evaluates requirements, recommend designs, provide cost analyses, plan projects, and coordinate tasks for installation of networks. Responsible for the planning and management of large network and telecommunications projects or significant segments of a large complex project. Plans integration of new switches into network. Oversees ordering process to effectively and economically meet grade of service objectives. Plans new routing revisions to ensure that the network databases are consistent with network plans. Analyzes and resolves technical problems for new and established networks. Provides network documentation, training, and guidance to computing system clients and programmers. Serves as technical specialist in network problems and emergencies. Troubleshoots and resolves complex network production problems. Conducts technical research on network upgrades and components to determine feasibility, cost, time required, and compatibility with current system. Recommends network solutions for short-, medium-, and long-range network projects. Oversees installation, configuration and maintenance of network components. Determines plan layout for new hardware or modifications to existing layout. Installs, upgrades, and configures network printing, directory structures, user access, security, software, and file services. Establishes user profiles, user environments, directories, and security for networks being installed. Works as a team member with other technical staff, such as systems to ensure connectivity and compatibility between systems. Works with vendors to resolve complex network problems. Maintains confidentiality with regard to the information being processed, stored or accessed by the network. Documents network problems and resolutions for future reference. Participates as a leader and as a senior team member.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Typically requires bachelor's degree and 10 to 12 years of telecommunication analysis experience.

Security Clearance:

Must have a current TS/SCI with polygraph.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Normal demands associated with an office environment. Ability to work on computer for long periods, and communicate with individuals by telephone, email and face to face. Some travel may be required.
