Duties and Responsibilities:
As a test engineer and quality assurance (QA) specialist for the business intelligence and data warehousing (BI/DW) project of the Transformation and Systems Consolidation (TASC) program, provides a wide range of knowledge, defines and develops test and quality assurance standards for the TASC BI/DW project, reviews equipment and/or systems in accordance with company and contractual test and QA requirements. Reviews and evaluates complex test specifications, test results, test trends and implements corrective action as needed.
Creates, develops, maintains, and executes manual and automated test standards for the testing of information technology products, equipment or systems. Tests software releases during the product development. Provides technical expertise on specific products, operating systems and specialized environments. Writes or assists in the development of test plans and test procedures. Establishes test processes and requirements documents. Reports test results and enters problems and issues into the database.
Configures necessary hardware and operating environments as needed to complete assigned testing. Develops test environment using test automation tools and agile methods. Establishes dashboard for easy accessibility to execution status. Identifies risks and provides mitigation strategies and options.
Participates in project & task planning and execution. Collaborates with product management and technical writers to ensure manuals are in synch with the software to ensure that quality is built in from the ground up. Interfaces with customers, vendors, and various company departments to resolve problems that cause test failures. Documents usable test engineering data applicable to the assignment. Develops testing design options or recommendations and may assists in the preparation of cost estimates and specifications on low level projects.
Establishes and maintains a process for evaluating software quality and associated documentation. Determines the resources required for quality control. Maintains the level of quality throughout the software life cycle. Reviews and verifies the preparation of quality assurance documentation and procedures. Conducts formal and informal reviews at predetermined points throughout the development life cycle. Ensures compliance with (and develops, as needed) QA and CM policies and procedures. Independently audits programs and reports compliance, issues, and provides corrective recommendations. Implements software process improvements to achieve and maintain an overall SEI CMM Level III rating for the organization. Interfaces with clients for quality assurance audits, resolution of discrepancies and other QA matters.
Adheres to configuration management and documentation practices.
Required Qualifications:
- This role will require the ability to perform detailed, test processes and procedures and understands the SEI CMMI Level 3 practices as they relate to test processes and principles necessary to assess advanced systems concepts, specifications and data system integration.
- Must have prior experience in a related field of expertise as a test engineer/analyst and possess skills in quality assurance implementation.
- Bachelor's degree (in Computer Science or related field) or equivalent, and 5 to 7 years of related (large-scale information system architecture) experience.
Desired Qualifications:
- Possess knowledge of test processes as they relate to business intelligence and data warehouse principles and design factors.
- Has an understanding of DHS financial, acquisition and asset management data systems and DHS testing policies, guidance, processes, practices and procedures.
- Hold a basic understanding of DHS customer roles in the financial, acquisition and asset management processes and business intelligence/data warehousing functionality in relation to financial, acquisition and asset management functionality.
