Description

As an experienced engineer, provides both internal and external consulting services. Works independently on advanced systems/software analysis projects. Develops and may conduct training programs. Remains current in operating systems/software analysis and technological developments/applications. Recommends future direction or projects to management. Provides knowledge and direction in the development or modification of complex software programs to enhance an operating system.

The Unix engineer will be responsible for sustainment tasks associated with existing systems in various zones supporting the development, testing, production, and COOP functions for numerous applications hosted in the Shared Services Engineering environment. The successful candidate will use existing processes and procedures to complete Sun Solaris, EMC SAN, and Legato backup sustainment activities and work with Senior Systems Engineers to develop new process documentation as necessary.

Required Skills and Experience:

- Sun Solaris 10 Operating System
- Server virtualization and container management
- SSH and ZFS management
- Sun hardware remote service processor (ALOM, ILOM)
- Sun Mid to Enterprise level server (M5000, T6000, T1000)
- Must meet the requirements of 8570.1M
- Must be familiar with DNS, LDAP

Demonstrated experience with configuring Solaris servers to the following:

- EMC Symmetrix DMX-2000/DMX-3
- EMC CLARiiON storage
- EMC Disk Library

Desired Skills and Experience:

Experience with the following technology:

- Solutions Enabler SYMCLI
- Maintaining IT assets in a government environment
- DoD STIG and DoN guidelines for Defense in Depth, securing systems, and IAVA process
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Able to present technical solutions in layman's terms for non-technical system owners
- Familiar with COOP and Disaster Recovery techniques and methodologies
- Familiar with Enterprise backup and recovery methodologies
- Working knowledge of DoDi 8500 series for Defense in Depth
- Familiar with UTNPP, DoD PPS CAL, IAVA and DoD/DoN directives and instructions
- Familiar with Oracle Solaris Cluster / Sun Cluster technology
- Familiar with Legato Backup

Security Clearance:

- Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a Government SECRET clearance and pass an SSBI background investigation

Degree Required:

- Requires bachelor's degree (in Computer Science, Math, Electrical Engineering or related field) or equivalent and ten to twelve years of related experience.
