CACI has an exciting Firmware Engineer opportunity in Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD. The ideal candidate will have experience in performing Firmware analysis by disassembly and analysis of micro-controller .HEX files. for CBTA.

What You’ll Get to Do:

  • Provide firmware analysis (FWA) on commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) and recovered devices. FWA includes but is not limited to formatting extracted hexadecimal (hex) code into that which is useful to the tool being used to provide disassembly, interpreting hex code into instructions per relevant specification sheets when said disassembly tools aren't available, and interpreting disassembled code thus providing detailed device function and performance as it relates to the program's intentional/non-intentional uses.

  • Be familiar or able to learn to use COTS or government owned FWA hardware (HW) and software (SW) tools relevant to FWA. These may be the currently used tools such as IDAPro, MPLab IDE, and CCS-C Compiler or tools researched for future use. This also includes providing training to those involved with FWA on current or future tools as directed or when required.

  • Be able to compose and perform peer review of all documents related to FWA. Composition includes but is not limited to be able to provide text, figures, drawings, and photos in accordance with DoD, Army, DIA, IEEE, APA and I2WD styles as and as directed by technical writers. Peer review includes but is not limited to reading the composition in its entirety to provide technical feedback, suggestion, and questions in a professional manner and working with personnel at each level of the review process to ensure that the analysis, integrity and correctness of the FWA in a document is not compromised.

  • Interact with internal and external teams and organizations to provide relevant and correct awareness of information derived from FWA.

  • Maintain relevant skills related to FWA and stay abreast of trending FWA capabilities whether of commercial or government in origin. This may entail attending conferences, trade shows, meetings, presentations or briefings, or doing general queries on the internet for answers or tools.

  • Provide status on all work related to FWA on a periodic or on an as necessary basis as determined by management. This includes providing weekly activities report, answering impromptu questions, and updating data bases.

You’ll Bring these Qualifications:

  • Active Secret clearance and obtain TS/SCI.

  • BS and 3 years relevant experience or AS/AA and 7 years relevant or High School and 10 years experience.

  • Experience in design and test prototype hardware and software for appliance controllers.

  • Experience in troubleshooting hardware down to component level.

  • Experience in analyzing and debug high-level source code.

  • Experience in analyzing assembled code (.asm) to give details on program flow, variables, and function calls, and of artifacts.

  • Experience in writing analysis reports and presentations in accordance to guidelines and direction.

  • Experience in providing and presenting oral briefings of analysis for audiences of low to high levels of understanding in subject matter.

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:

  • Engineer or like responsibilities in an R&D or manufacturing environment.

  • Security or penetration testing.

  • Ethical hacking.

  • Assembly code and high-level language (C, C++, Python, etc.) programming.

  • RISC, CISC, ARM, and MIPS (Harvard) bus architecture.

  • Experience with PIC and Atmel microcontrollers.
