What You’ll Get to Do:
As the 508 Compliance Specialist you will be responsible for testing and correcting web-based content and digital documents for government agency external affairs website to ensure content meets federal accessibility requirements. In this role you will be part of a high-performing content team to support existing website communications and content production efforts.
More About the Role:
Review digital documents and products against Section 508 compliance standards including PDFs, MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files and multi-media products to ensure content conforms to accessibility guidelines and requirements and provide results back to content leads.
Remediate content files as needed to include appropriate accessibility components such as synchronized captions, descriptions and transcriptions, proper file names, link names and structure, tables, list format, heading styles and other formatting guidelines.
Maintain current knowledge of Section 508 compliance and accessibility guidelines and checklists.
Work collaboratively with leads, developers, project managers, and graphics teams to encourage accessible authoring of content by sharing guidelines and best practices and subject matter expertise.
You’ll Bring These Qualifications:
Ability to obtain a DHS Entrance on Duty (EOD).
BA + 2 years of experience with a minimum 1 year of experience in 508 accessibility testing for documents and digital content (alternative to BA + 2 years is 8 years applicable experience, AA + 4 years applicable experience or MA + 2 years applicable experience).
Extensive knowledge of Adobe Acrobat DC is required.
Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Visio), Adobe Acrobat and other accessibility testing tools, e.g., color contrast checkers, JAWS.
Strong written and verbal communications skills.
