CACI seeks a junior / entry-level Technical Writer interested in tackling complex documentation steeped in the Software Development Lifecycle that supports various U.S. Department of Defense clients in Austin, TX. The successful candidate will work alongside an experienced tech writer and a large team of technical professionals consisting of software developers, engineers, trainers, and technical support personnel. The technical writer will gain heavy experience in software development and sustainment and participate in both waterfall and Agile/Scrum projects.
Offices for this location are in Austin, TX. For those outside of the Austin area, relocation assistance may be considered on a case by case basis.
What You'll Get to Do:
Write documentation that details software technical specifications
Maintain and edit user manuals and help systems designed for an application’s end users
Organize and capture software operations and translate them into an intuitive format for end users
Actively participate in software development status meetings (daily “stand ups”), software planning meetings, and ad-hoc meetings that help sustain applications
Create, upload and maintain information on collaboration sites
Proofread and edit documents submitted by co-workers
Provide quick turnaround on user manuals or other documentation affected by defects tracked in JIRA
Develop computer-based training products
Script, record and produce demonstration and training videos
You’ll Bring These Qualifications:
US citizenship is required along with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI security clearance
Typically has a University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 3 years of technical writer experience
Demonstrable education related to writing or related field
These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:
Bachelor’s Degree is preferred
Familiarity with the U.S. Department of Defense
Knowledge of the Software Development Lifecycle
Knowledge of Agile/Scrum processes, particularly its relationship to Software Development and Implementation
Experience writing software-specific technical documentation and documentation that is easy-to-read for end users
Experience translating complex technical jargon into documentation for a non-technical audience
Additional experience in software development, test engineering, quality assurance, or other software development-related field
Experience with one or more of the following:
--MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Visio)
--Madcap Flare (advanced skills for converting legacy content is a plus)
--Image editing software (e.g. SnagIt)
--Atlassian products (Confluence, JIRA)
--SVN or other source management software
--HTML and CSS
