CACI International CDM Cyber Security Intern – Summer 2021 in College Station, Texas
What You’ll Get to Do:
CACI is looking for rock star students who will come together as a team with a student lead (coursework in IT management or business management) and four-to-six other students (coursework in cybersecurity computer science). The individual team members will be group together to work on the research and analysis of related cybersecurity tools. This work will be aligned to our program project areas that are part of the DHS DEFEND A Continuous Diagnostics and Mitigation (CDM) program. Our current project areas include DHS Dashboard upgrade to Elastic; the Asset Management data modeling project for data metrics of DHS Component assets for hardware, software, vulnerabilities and configuration data points; Identity and Access Management using SailPoint, CyberArk and CA PAM for the gathering and analysis of user access information; Incident Response Reporting for the automation of cyber incident response reports from a manual process to automated playbooks; Azure cloud building; and the laboratory design, implementation, testing and validation of new CDM tools.
The project manager team lead will work with one of the Deputy Program Managers and will be responsible for the work assignments of the team members based on student skills, student desire to work with specific tools and/or programming languages, and availability; the review of work on a weekly basis leading to a final team project presentation at the end of the summer by all team members to senior CACI management; monitoring that time card entries are done every day; and attending management meetings to develop an understanding of day-to-day small team project management issues and activities.
Each cyber team member will be assigned to a tool review that aligns to one of the project areas noted above. Typically, students will collaborate on tool research, installation and testing resulting in an Analysis of Alternatives (AOA) for the cybersecurity tool reviews. Cyber students should have a background with one or more programming languages such as Python and have taken courses in cyber operation systems, networks, cloud systems and other coursework that can be applied to a real-world environment. Knowledge of Elastic or Splunk is a plus. A key driver will be your inquisitive nature, desire to determine if a tool actually performs as stated by the manufacturer, and ability to collaboratively discuss pros and cons of tools being reviewed.
We do not expect you to know everything on day one or at the end of the summer. We do expect you to learn, contribute and be an everyday participating part of the team we build around you. The purpose of the team assignment is for each of you to experience how teams operate over an extended period of time, to learn about frustration when obstacles are encountered and excitement when the obstacle is solved and the path ahead is clear.
We operate in a remote environment. You will be a member of our CACI Teams group and will have a daily check in/check out on Teams with the Team Lead. We typically look for students who live in or near the Washington DC metropolitan areas which encompasses DC, Montgomery and Prince Georges counties in Maryland, and the Northern Virginia area. Although we are remote, we may meet for limited team sessions at our Chantilly and Reston, Virginia office locations depending on COVID-19 issues. However, we are looking for the best and brightest students and your location for the summer should not be an issue if you have the solid Internet connection and a good laptop.
You will be submitted for a DHS clearance. Our program’s clearance level requires an extensive background check and once completed and for as long as you are associated with our program, you will maintain that clearance. Depending on your long-term plans with CACI and your performance, you may also be submitted for a Government classified clearance. There are opportunities for employment during the school year.
You must be a US citizen.
