Job Description

CACI is looking to hire Optical Engineers/Investigators at a variety of skill set levels. If you have skills in the area of fiber optics, fiber lasers, high-power bulk lasers, optical communications, nonlinear optics, ultrafast lasers, spectroscopy, integrated photonics, and RF photonics; we would like to talk with you!

The Photonics team is expanding! Our laser communications technology is helping NASA provide high-definition video from the International Space Station, and to explore asteroids 250 million miles away. Our other optical technology can also help scientists discover biohazards; support intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions; and protect soldiers from explosive devices. What You’ll Get to Do:

  • Optical design for programs that develop new photonic technology and custom hardware for free-space optical communications, laser transmitters for remote sensing, RF photonics, and other applications

  • Using both commercial and internally-developed tools, model key phenomena as needed for optical design work, often including a combination of rare-earth amplifier physics, light propagation in optical fibers or integrated optical circuits, and nonlinear optics

  • Hands-on development and testing of custom optical systems

  • Support the growth of the LGS photonics team by contributing new ideas for the technical growth of our organization, and contributing to proposal creation

  • Interact with Government customers during formal program reviews and throughout the program lifecycle

  • If required, obtain/retain a government security clearance at the level required to perform the duties of the position

You’ll Bring These Qualifications:

  • PhD in optics, physics, or a related field, or master’s degree and a minimum of 3 years of additional related experience

  • At least 3 years of experience with one of more of the following: fiber optics, fiber lasers, high-power bulk lasers, optical communications, nonlinear optics, ultrafast lasers, spectroscopy, integrated photonics, and RF photonics

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:

  • PhD in optics, physics, or a related field

Working Conditions:Work is typically performed in an office and lab environment which requires proper safety precautions. Work requires some physical effort in the handling of materials, boxes, or equipment.
