What You’ll Get to Do:
CACI is looking for an early career NASA Space Vehicle Radiation Engineer to support multiple programs and projects including Lunar Gateway, Human Landing System (HLS), Habitation and Logistics Outpost (HALO), and Volatiles Investigating Polar Exploration Rover (VIPER) at NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX.
Strong candidates will have academic backgrounds in a related field with significant professional experience in radiation survivability. The work involves working with venders to ensure their products meet radiation requirements for successful space flight.
This position requires a self-motivated, capable person with strong verbal and written communication skills. In addition to outstanding academic performance, the individual must be very people savvy, have strong customer relationship skills, possess a positive team-player attitude, be flexible and willing to take on new assignments and responsibilities as they arise, and be an articulate speaker able to communicate complex technical ideas in a convincing manner. The individual must share our passion for our Nation's Space Program and share in the excitement of developing the next generation of human-rated space vehicles.
More About the Role:
Job responsibilities include:
Evaluate designs from a space radiation survivability perspective and develop design change or tailoring recommendations.
Collaborate with spacecraft venders and provide expertise and guidance for meeting radiation requirements.
Develop test stands for radiation testing of electronic components and maintain existing test systems.
Develop LabView software to support testing.
Prepare test plans and procedures for evaluation of hardware components and systems for radiation survivability compliance.
Participate in design reviews, customer acceptance reviews, test readiness reviews, and other program reviews. Develop review documentation, as needed.
Investigate test discrepancies and anomalies.
Evaluate radiation test results to determine the impacts of non-conformances. Discuss concerns/issues with stakeholders and address any vehicle-level concerns.
Assist with test lab design and selection of instrumentation.
Perform work in a radiation test lab environment.
This work takes place at NASA/JSC in Houston, TX, a highly stimulating and dynamic environment that is critical in human space flight and the space exploration initiative.
You’ll Bring These Qualifications:
Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident for access to USG facilities.
B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related disciplines.
Minimum of 3 years of radiation experience. Experience greater than the minimum is valued.
Strong candidates will have some of the following qualifications:
Experience in or understanding of semiconductor physics.
Experience in or understanding of electronic circuit design.
Experience in or understanding of semiconductor electronics and electro-mechanical devices.
Experience analyzing and presenting test data.
Must be flexible, open to new challenges in a dynamic environment, and possess strong technical expertise combined with strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities with little supervision.
Must be a highly responsible, team-oriented individual with strong work ethic.
Must have highly developed coordination and organization skills.
These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:
M.S. or Ph. D. in Physics or Electrical Engineering with thesis in radiation.
Experience in radiation survivability testing.
Knowledge of space ionizing radiation and its effects on electrical components.
Familiarity with NASA EEE and Electro-optical Parts related processes.
Experience with CREME96, SPENVIS, or IRENE.
Experience developing Printed Circuit Board (PCB) designs.
Experience with PCB tools such as Altium.
Familiarity with electronics lab test equipment.
Experience developing LabVIEW software.
