CACI is looking for an experienced Software Systems Engineer to support the Lunar Gateway Program at NASA Johnson Space Center in the Verification and Validation (V&V) of the on-board Vehicle Systems Manager (VSM).

What You’ll Get to Do:

This engineering position involves reviewing and understanding concept and software requirements; analyzing software architecture and design; formulating test objectives, plans, and procedures; developing and executing test cases; leading development of scripts and procedures; and evaluating and presenting test outcomes and supporting system certification. The position involves collaborating with Flight Software Development teams, vehicle subsystem teams, domestic and international Gateway partners.

This position requires a self-motivated, capable person with strong verbal and written communication skills. In addition to outstanding technical expertise, the individual must have strong customer relationship skills, possess a positive team-player attitude, be flexible and willing to take on new assignments and responsibilities as they arise, and be an articulate speaker able to communicate complex technical ideas in a convincing manner. The individual must share our passion for our Nation's Space Program and share in the excitement of developing the next human-rated space vehicles.

Job responsibilities include:

  • Develop verification and validation objectives, test cases, and test procedures for distributed autonomous control system requirements.

  • Interface with software and simulation systems to understand behavior and design and execute verification events.

  • Work across spacecraft subsystems to leverage verification events to minimize verification efforts on limited resources.

  • Use custom and commercial tools (DOORS, SharePoint, Confluence) to record verification artifacts.

  • Interface with NASA and spacecraft designer engineering teams.

  • Interface and build relationships with domestic and international Gateway partners.

  • Coordinate with vendors and government teams performing lower-level verification for oversight and ability to leverage V&V activities for credit.

  • Provide creative solutions for constrained schedules and resources in a fast-paced environment.

  • Develop detailed knowledge of overall Gateway and individual spacecraft module design through design evolution.

This work takes place onsite at NASA/JSC in Houston, TX, a highly stimulating and dynamic environment that is critical in human space flight and the space exploration initiative.

You’ll Bring These Qualifications:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident to facilitate access to USG facilities.

  • B.S. in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, Software, Computer or Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or related disciplines required.

  • Strong software systems engineering experience.

  • Background in software development.

  • Experience with V&V processes, including specification of verification criteria and development of test cases.

  • Experience with distributed complex systems.

  • Experience with DOORS or equivalent software applications.

  • Experience with EITHER:

  • Autonomous or remotely controlled systems (e.g., used in satellites, autonomous cars, or unmanned aerial vehicles), OR

  • Avionics and flight software development for human-rated space vehicles, e.g., Space Shuttle, International Space Station, Commercial Crew Vehicles, Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle, or Gateway L2 or L3 vehicles.

  • Evidence of success in highly collaborative projects/environments.

  • Ability to succeed in fast-paced environments.

  • Must be flexible, open to new challenges in a dynamic environment.

  • Possess technical expertise combined with verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with some supervision.

  • Must be a responsible, team-oriented individual with strong work ethic.

  • Must have well developed coordination and organization skills.

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:

  • M.S. in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, Software, Computer or Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline.

  • Unified Modeling Language (UML) experience.

  • Systems Modeling Language (SysML) experience.

  • C/C++ software development experience.

  • Experience with data-driven software systems.

  • Experience with Agile software development environments and methodologies.

  • Experience in the full life cycle of human-rated space vehicle flight projects. (e.g., Space Shuttle, International Space Station, Commercial Crew Vehicles, or Orion).

  • Experience with custom and commercial document repository tools (SharePoint, Confluence, etc.).
