What You’ll Get to Do:

CACI is looking for a Power Electronics Lab Manager with experience in aerospace hardware test engineering or power electronics lab management in support of NASA’s Lunar Gateway, a vital component of NASA’s Artemis program. Gateway is a space station in Lunar orbit that will allow easy access to the Lunar surface for crew exploration and eventual habitation. Gateway will be intermittently staffed with astronauts conducting experiments or on their way to or from the Lunar surface.

As a power lab manager, you will have an opportunity to oversee the design and integration of a state-of-the-art power laboratory.

After the lab has been fully outfitted, you will then manage the day-to-day operations of the lab, working with user customers and lab engineers/technicians.

This position requires a self-starting, capable person with strong verbal and written communication skills. In addition to outstanding technical expertise, the individual must possess strong customer relationship skills, have a positive team-player attitude, and be flexible and willing to take on new assignments and responsibilities as they arise. Finally, the most qualified candidate will be an articulate speaker able to communicate technical ideas in an effective manner, must share our passion for our Nation's Space Program, and share in the excitement of developing the next human-rated space vehicles.

Job responsibilities include:

  • Power Laboratory design phase will include developing overall lab requirements based on information supplied by the customer such as:

  • Design of physical layout of lab testbeds, including equipment placement and harness routing, underfloor and overhead cable trays.

  • Write requirements or statements of work for facility upgrades to enable bulk power testing of simulated spacecraft or extraterrestrial microgrid loads.

  • Communicate with center services for installation of relevant power lab infrastructure, including 3 phase power feed and network/IT equipment.

  • Power Laboratory operational phase will include day-to-day management of the lab and its resources such as:

  • Maintaining lab operations and test calendar

  • Coordinate maintenance activities and support services while minimizing impact to customer test needs.

  • Coordinating calibration of lab instruments and hazardous materials inventory.

  • Observe and understand administrative and technical requirements for maintaining an ESD control program within the laboratory environment.

  • Update hazard analysis and process documents as equipment is added to the lab.

  • Request quotes from vendors and create purchase requests for lab equipment and supplies.

  • Manage property inventory that falls within the purview of the power lab.

This work takes place at NASA/JSC in Houston, TX, a highly stimulating and dynamic environment that is critical in human space flight and the space exploration initiative.

You’ll Bring These Qualifications:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident for access to US Government facilities.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or related disciplines required.

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of hardware/software test facility development and operation. More experience is highly valued.

  • An engineer with excellent people skills able to facilitate meetings with XLabs leads and test hardware providers.

  • Systems Engineering experience.

  • Excellent communication skills able to translate lab requirements into facility functionality.

  • Must be flexible, open to new challenges in a dynamic environment, and possess strong technical expertise combined with strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with little supervision.

  • Must be a highly responsible, team-oriented individual with strong work ethic.

  • Must have highly developed coordination and organization skills.

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:

  • Experience with power lab development and / or management & operations, particularly for aerospace systems. More experience is highly valued.

  • Project management skills.

  • Engineering test design and hardware testing experience, including familiarity with standard electrical power lab equipment such as power supplies, multimeters, oscilloscopes, electronic load banks, and soldering stations.

  • Experience with automated electrical power distribution systems in a hardware/software integration lab.

  • Experience with three-phase AC power distribution and Lithium-ion battery safety and battery containment methods

  • Experience in the NASA/JSC environment or other highly technical environment is a plus.
