The paralegal will provide support on-site at the CFTC for the Division of Enforcement. You will also perform duties involving the processing of legal work and performing a variety of legal, technical and administrative functions to support organizational activities.
What You’ll Get to Do:
Reviewing and processing incoming Freedom of Information Act requests
Performing legal research
Assisting in drafting legal documents
Reviewing documents to extract and summarize selected data and information
Reviewing case materials to become familiar with questions under consideration
Reviewing case files and noting and correcting case file deficiencies
Reviewing and analyzing available relevant precedents
Gathering and reviewing data to discover patterns
Overseeing reproduction of legal records and other documents
Maintaining case records
Conducting inventory of files and making recommendations on changes to record collection and retention
Scanning documents
Performing special projects and other assignments as may be required
You’ll Bring These Qualifications:
Requires paralegal certificate. No substitutions for ABA certificate.
At least one year of litigation paralegal experience required; trial experience very helpful.
Requires excellent written and oral communication skills, thorough knowledge and hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (such as document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems.
Automated litigation support experience valued.
Must have basic legal knowledge, including knowledge of standard legal citation to cite check legal motions and memorandum and must have sufficient experience with legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw to perform basic legal research.
Role also requires basic familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of e-discovery procedures and resources.
Must be eligible for a Dept. Of Justice MBI security clearance. (U.S. Citizenship required.)
Demonstrated ability to work independently, with minimal supervision; and ability to consistently deliver highest quality work under extreme pressure.
These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:
- Federal litigation experience and FOIA experience desired.
