Microsoft Systems Center Operations Manager (SCOM) Engineer
CACI is seeking a Monitoring Tools Engineer specialized in Microsoft Systems Center Operations Manager (SCOM) to join our technical operations and maintenance team on a contract supporting the enterprise network and infrastructure at the Department of Homeland Security. The SCOM Engineer will play a key role in configuring, tuning, and managing the monitoring tools of systems in a 24/7/365 environment.
What You’ll Get to Do:
Serving as a Monitoring Tools Engineer your responsibilities include:
Configure, manage, and maintain the System Center Operations Manager (SCOM) application by performing administrative tasks from the console.
Create, maintain, and tune monitoring and notification rules in SCOM.
Act as SME for SCOM including day to day administration, configuration, and troubleshooting.
Collaborate with Systems Architects and Engineers to determine requirements for filters, events, alerts, dashboards and reporting within SCOM.
Review and update SCOM console security, apply patches, create SCOM console roles, and create custom management packs as needed.
Deliver SCOM views, create custom reports on results of SCOM monitoring and provide problem resolution for SCOM components and related custom scripts.
Create automated solutions for data collection and reporting for existing applications and infrastructure for Performance and Availability.
Review and analyze Web Application Performance and end user experience (client-side browser profiling), utilizing a deep understanding various monitoring tools.
Set up performance monitoring for the applications, databases, network and cloud
Work to improve monitoring capabilities.
Respond to systems alerts, triage, troubleshoot, and resolve incidents
Join troubleshooting bridge calls for major incidents.
Assist with postmortem related activities and support various efforts related to operational improvements.
Based on recommendations from management, implement new and improved processes, change processes, perform new tasks, create reports, and address ad-hoc requests.
Contribute to documentation in the Knowledge Base, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), work instructions, and job aids.
Conduct knowledge transfer sessions with operations and engineering teams on new solutions, systems, applications, and tools.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
You’ll Bring These Qualifications:
Ability to obtain DoD Top Secret/SCI Clearance
Ability to obtain Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Entry On Duty (EOD) - Active EOD preferred
B.S. + 8 years of applicable experience
Experience with Microsoft SCOM installation, configuration, administration, tuning/adjustments of thresholds and notifications in an enterprise environment
Microsoft systems administration experience
PowerShell and infrastructure management
Strong collaboration and communication skills
Strong experience in developing and providing dashboards and reports
Experience of event management and event mapping with incidents
ITIL Foundation certification (not required to start but expected to attain in first six months)
Experience using Service Now service management software (or similar tool) to document incidents and service requests
These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:
Previous DHS or DoD experience
The following certifications are highly desired:
MCSE
Security+ ITIL Foundation
Other monitoring tools such as Spectrum and SolarWinds
Experience with major Microsoft technologies including Windows 10, Server 2012, 2012R2, 2016 and 2019, Active Directory, SCCM
Experience with server virtualization technologies including VMWare
Knowledgeable of Problem Management best practice and processes
