CACI International Senior Aerospace Engineer in Santa Maria, California
What You’ll Get to Do:
You will be a resident expert in the mathematics and physics of space flight. You will develop, interpret, and validate algorithms involving orbital mechanics and space vehicle flight dynamics. You will assist with the development and testing of a satellite launch vehicle trajectory simulation program, as well as other related tools. You will be a problem-solver, analyzing and troubleshooting errors in simulation results. You will be comfortable talking GPS, inertial measurement systems, airborne and land-based tracking systems, flight computer systems, orbital parameter calculations, trajectory optimization, and other facets of trajectory simulation.
More About this Role:
Develop and troubleshoot mathematical models used for aerodynamic force calculations, propulsion systems, actuator systems, vehicle mass properties, atmospheric parameters, flight computer systems, IMS/INU systems, 3-DOF steering algorithms, moment balancing algorithms.
Conduct independent studies to validate results and to develop improved models.
Be familiar and comfortable working with both 3-DOF and 6-DOF trajectory simulations.
Effectively communicate results in writing and verbally to teammates and outside entities.
You’ll Bring These Qualifications:
Understanding of the underlying physical and mathematical concepts associated with flight mechanics, astrodynamics, control theory, orbital mechanics, and other related flight dynamics fields of study.
Proficiency in technical details and understanding of flight dynamics simulation techniques, concepts, and theory as they apply to trajectory simulation, attitude control, guidance and navigation, optimization, and statistical analysis.
Ability to understand and explain complex mathematical models related to all aspects of Space Vehicle Trajectory Analysis.
Experience working with Microsoft tools in a Windows environment.
Experience writing technical memos and reports.
Experience with one or more high-level programming languages, such as Fortran, C, or C++.
These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:
Experience with control systems and filtering.
Experience working with Microsoft Visual Studio.
Experience working with Intel Visual Fortran.
Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment, using Confluence and Jira.
Graduate degree(s) in Mathematics, Physics, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.
Eight or more years of relevant professional experience
