What You’ll Get to Do:

CACI is looking for a Part-Time-On-Call American Sign Language (ASL)- spoken English Interpreter who will simultaneously and consecutively interpret/transliterate, supporting Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) Headquarters as scheduled or on-demand. Within SEA10s professional, dynamic, highly technical, and fast-paced work environment, services will be provided within an array of formal and informal settings on-site and/or remotely via Video Interpreting along with supporting an occasional Temporary Duty (TDY) assignment.

More About the Role:

  • Render interpreting services in a highly technical, supportive, professional environment as part of a contract team supporting NAVSEA at the Washington Navy Yard.

  • Interpret/transliterate for specialized meetings, seminars, conferences, and training programs, and occasional TDYs that utilize technical terminology (engineering, IT, cybersecurity, procurement, military jargon, etc.). Interpret in formal and informal discussions with leadership, supervisors, staff members, and internal and external stakeholders.

  • Perform simultaneous platform interpreting at occasional formal ceremonies and special events.

  • Interpret regularly from ASL to English for Deaf technical specialists in leadership positions.

  • Simultaneously and consecutively interpret/transliterate, with facility working across the full spectrum of American Sign Language (ASL), Conceptually Accurate Signed English (CASE), transliteration, etc. and the full spectrum of English registers.

  • Interpret in a hybrid environment, remotely and on-site. (Initial training is on-site and in-person, with the opportunity to prioritize remote assignments after on-boarding).

  • Provide weekly on-call services on Thursdays, with the possibility of additional ad hoc and travel assignments. Weekly hours negotiable.

  • Maintain adherence to the RID Code of Professional Conduct: http://rid.org/ethics/code-of-professional-conduct/ .

  • Consult with clients and colleagues to maintain an effective and accessible communication environment. Provide input on Diversity & Inclusion projects to influence policy, practice, and procedural changes throughout the entire workforce, to create a more inclusive workplace for Deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing employees.

  • Maintain accurate records of work to meet contract reporting requirements.

You’ll Bring These Qualifications:

  • BA/BS in ASL Interpretation

  • RID Certification

  • 5+ years’ experience as a certified interpreter working in fast-paced, technical settings.

  • Equally strong ASL-to-English and English-to-ASL interpreting skills.

  • Experience with solving complex problems involving consideration of multiple issues and job areas.

  • Active Secret Clearance or higher

  • Experience and flexibility using a variety of technologies to interpret in a hybrid environment (Zoom, MS Teams, etc.).

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:

  • MA/MS Degree in ASL interpretation

  • 5+ years working in a Business/Government setting with highly complex technical jargon.

  • Familiarity with Outlook
