What You’ll Get to Do:

  • Prepares a variety of essential legal documents; drafts and finalizes transmittal letters and other court documents.

  • Contacts and submits inquiries to United States Attorney’s Offices, Internal Revenue Offices, and other offices pertaining to case procedures and updates on particular cases.

  • Extracts, photocopies, assembles, and organizes exhibits for trial preparation. Prepares, identifies, locates, photocopies, organizes, and assembles legal documents for trials, utilizing proper court procedures, rules, and regulations.

  • Prepares and organizes litigation materials including exhibits and court forms under an attorney's supervision.

  • Uses various types of software including import/export of graphics and data, spreadsheets (i.e., Microsoft Excel), desktop publishing tools (i.e., Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat), and presentation software (i.e., PowerPoint). Uses a variety of automated legal research tools such as PACER, Sanction, IproView System, WestlawNext, LexisNexis, and internet to research cases, individual taxpayers, companies, and corporations owing tax to the U.S. Government.

  • Proofreads completed legal documents for grammatical and spelling errors. Creates closing letters and slips. Sets up court reporter for trial depositions. Performs data entry into case management tools and case logistical information.

  • Runs reports for the Chiefs/Assistant Chiefs.

More About the Role:

  • In addition to performing functions of Document Management Technician, as described below, performs moderately complex litigation support tasks, including, for example, detailed review and analysis of case materials in a broad range of subject matters, such as financial records, health care materials, and other litigation files.

  • Detailed indexing of case files; drafting procedures for accomplishing litigation support assignments.

  • Document acquisition related tasks; screening for privilege documents; and conducting database searches.

  • Proofreads and edits deliverable products.

  • Sometimes serves as "team leader" for larger group of Document Management Technicians and clerical support staff.

  • Often works with minimal supervision.

  • Reports to Task Supervisor or Project Supervisor.

You’ll Bring These Qualifications:

  • Three years of experience on major litigation support projects or undergraduate degree.

  • Certain assignments may require experience or substantial undergraduate coursework in, for example, finance/accounting, health care, or substantial experience in the legal environment or in information technology.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in a team environment.

  • Must have excellent writing skills and oral communication capabilities.

  • Requires hands-on familiarity with the Government's office and network environment, including but not limited to, data processing environments, including office automation networks, PC-based databases and other applications, internet and server-based databases and other applications, such as Oracle, Relativity or other document review platform, Trial Director, etc.

  • Should be a knowledgeable user of the Government's office and network environment, including but not limited to, word processing, spreadsheet, imaging, and hardware systems.

  • Familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and resources preferred.
