CACI International Senior Paralegal - Superior Court in Washington, District Of Columbia
Requires paralegal certificate.
The Superior Court Division(SCD) is different from District Court Divisions as it prosecutes all local cases in the District of Columbia except traffic offenses and Juvenile cases.
SCD normally has a higher volume of cases that are on a faster than District Court. Upon arrival, the selectee will provide trial support in the Misdemeanor Trial Unit (MTU) supporting a team of four attorneys.
Each attorney has 100 (average) pending cases that must be ready for trial approximately 60 days after arraignment The selectee is responsible for case preparation, trial support and case disposition with minimal supervision and involvement from the assigned attorney(s).
On a daily basis the selectee monitors the court calendar for the trial team, ensuring that cases are ready for trial, e.g., discovery, evidence, notification to witnesses, downloading body warn footage (BWC), ordering police communications, drug analysis, etc.
The selectee will assist with monitoring the Witness Room located in the Superior Courthouse which includes checking in witnesses and notifying trial attorneys when all witnesses are present for trial.
Post-trial duties include but are not limited to closing case files manually and electronically.
Requires paralegal certificate and 5 years of paralegal experience
At least one year of litigation paralegal experience required; trial experience very helpful.
Automated litigation support experience valued.
Must have basic legal knowledge, including knowledge of standard legal citation to cite check legal motions and memorandum and must have sufficient experience with legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw to perform basic legal research.
Requires excellent written and oral communication skills, thorough knowledge and hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (such as document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems.
Role also requires basic familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of e-discovery procedures and resources. Ability to consistently deliver highest quality work under extreme pressure will be very important.
Perform WALES Check on Witnesses
Order Grand Jury/ Court Transcripts- save information in Litigation Services portal
Mail out subpoenas for civilian witnesses
Request for Evidence Report and Photos
Provide AUSA with Witness vouchers
File Motions with the Judge’s Chambers.
Completes court runs
Closes out files (closed files)
Provide AUSAs with witness vouchers
Complete administrative, legal assistant and paralegal tasks
