What You’ll Get to Do:
On-site position supporting the DOJ Environment and Natural Resources Division Environmental Crimes Section (ECS). The Victim Witness Coordinator will provide crucial litigation support to DOJ ENRD attorneys in their mission of prosecuting environmental crimes, and serve as a resource to prosecutors and victim-witness staff. The Victim Witness Coordinator will assist DOJ attorneys in providing services under the Victims’ Rights and Restitution Act (VRRA), and to accord rights under the Crime Victims’ Rights Act (CVRA).
Primary duties and responsibilities will include:
Provide coordination, logistical and legal support to the Environmental Crimes Section (ECS) Victim-Witness Coordinator, ECS attorneys and staff in relation to the VRRA and CVRA.
Assist with victim identification, case tracking and status reporting, including maintaining files, creating reports, and drafting correspondence.
Serve as an VRRA/CVRA information and program resource for victims, state, federal, territorial, tribal, and local law enforcement.
Provide victim notification of court proceedings, available services and rights under the VRRA/CVRA.
Prepare victim impact statements.
Entering and assuring required information within Victim Notification System (VNS) Data Management System and agency case management systems.
Produce informational aids for attorney and law enforcement training on victim issues under the CVRA.

More About the Role:
Additional duties may include the following:
Performs complex legal research for the trial staff.
Assists in preparing draft legal documents, such as motions, briefs, memoranda of law, etc. reviewing documents for relevance and privilege; and assisting attorneys with all phases of litigation.
Coordinating logistics and planning/supporting town hall meetings and other victim/witness outreach activities.
As a Law Clerk, you will also work as a part of a high-performing team where you will be able to hone your analytical and research skills by engaging in intensive document reviews to identify relevant documents and to conduct legal and factual research to build case. In addition:
You will gain invaluable experience utilizing electronic discovery tools and work in databases such as Relativity, conducting searches and identifying factually relevant and privileged data to support assigned investigations.
Review documents for relevance and privilege; and assisting attorneys with all phases of litigation.
You’ll Bring These Qualifications:
Law degree, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school, having completed at least one year of study.
Requires sound working knowledge of federal and state court systems, legal research procedures, and legal research resources.
Excellent organization skills and attention to detail. All project related documents and notes must be maintained in an organized system, ready for use at any time.
Empathy and patience, and a customer-service attitude.
Requires excellent written and oral communication skills and thorough knowledge of legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw.
Must have hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (such as document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, and imaging.
Role also requires hands-on familiarity with eDiscovery applications and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and resources.
These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:
eDiscovery certifications
Prior experience supporting the Federal Government
Trial experience very helpful.
Automated litigation support experience valued.
Experience providing support to victims and witnesses.
